2007 NFL Mock Draft

1.) Oakland- Jamarcus Russell, QB, LSU

2.) Detroit-Brady Quinn, QB, ND

Barring another brilliant front office decision by Matt Millen, the Lions should take Quinn. They passed on 2 franchise quarterbacks last year (Leinart and Cutler), and Jon Kitna is not the future (I hope).

3.) Cleveland- Adrian Peterson, RB, OU

4.) Tampa Bay- Calvin Johnson, WR, GT

It seems weird that the #1 overall player in the draft would drop to 4, but that’s what is going to happen. The Bucs receiving corps needs help as Galloway is aging and Clayton hasn’t shown any real promise since his outstanding rookie campaign. Now all they need is a QB…..

5.) Arizona- Joe Thomas, OT, WIS

This is the ideal pick for the Cardinals, and they would be more than ecstatic if the #1 O-lineman fell to their laps at 5. The Cardinals have a terrible O-Line and their best player on it, Leonard Davis, will probably bolt this offseason. Thomas will bolster the horrendous line and give it some promise. The Cards are set at all the offensive skill positions, now all they need is for someone to guard them.

6.) Washington- Gaines Adams, DE, CLEM

7.) Minnesota- Jamaal Anderson, DE, ARK

8.) Houston- Alan Branch, DT, MICH

9.) Miami- Amoki Oboye, DT, UL

Critics say that the Dolphins defense is aging, and what better way to silence those critics than draft a 19 year-old prodigy? Oboye has unlimited potential and would help alleviate some of the pressure on Jason Taylor. The Dolphins need to keep their defense strong, because their offense is in shambles due to the QB situation and Ronnie Brown’s health.

10.) Atlanta- Leon Hall, CB, MICH

11.) San Francisco- Ted Ginn Jr, WR, OSU

On offensive playmaker and special teams extraordinaire, Ted Ginn Jr. is one of the most, if not the most, explosive players in this draft. The 49ers could use a big play target for Alex Smith, and with Ginn, the 49ers would be set at every offensive skill position (QB: Smith, RB: Gore, WR: Ginn, TE: Davis). This pick could give the 49ers a legitimate shot at making the playoffs in the woeful NFC.

12.) Buffalo-Darrelle Revis, CB, PITT

13.) St. Louis-Lawrence Timmons, OLB, FSU

14.) Carolina- Laron Landry, DB, LSU

15.) Pittsburgh-Quentin Moses, DE, UG

16.) Green Bay-Marshawn Lynch, RB, CAL

The Packers had a good record this year with a bad team. This might be good in the short term, but they have many needs and now have a lower draft pick. Ahman Green is most likely finished as a premiere back in this league, and the Packers need someone to replace him. Lynch had an outstanding career at Cal, and could infuse the aging Packers offense with some youth and speed.

17.) Jacksonville-Reggie Nelson, S, UF

18.) Cincinnati-Demarcus Tyler, DT, NCST

19.) Tennessee-Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC

It is clear that Vince Young can make plays with his feet, but he didn’t throw the ball very well this year. Part of this was due to his lackluster core of receivers. The Titans brought in Givens to give him a target, but he was hurt most of the year. Jarrett is a big strong receiver who, unfortunately, reminds some people of Mike Williams(DET). This comparison could drop him down a few spots to the Titans. The reason Mike Williams failed isn’t because he is big, it’s because he had no work ethic. As long as Jarrett works hard, he and Vince Young should have a nice long career together.
